Staff Biographies
Dale Barter
BVSc MRVCS
Dale graduated from the University of Queensland in 1981.
After his first job as a field Vet for two years in the Sultanate of Oman, he arrived in
London and began working in small animal practice. He has developed his veterinary expertise
over 20 years working in various areas of London before establishing the Amwell Veterinary Practice in 1997.
He believes that by keeping the Practice small, he can offer a personal, high quality service to clients and their pets.
This is exemplified in the Practice’s maxim “Your pet’s vet for life”. Patients benefit from this as they see the same
vet at each visit. It is also rewarding for Dale as he follows the life of his patients from babyhood to adolescence and
through middle age to a healthy and happy retirement.
Dale is the proud owner of Betty and Zorg (half brother and sister Cairn Terriers who meet and greet at the Practice),
Jock (a 14year old Cocker Spaniel who had five homes in the first six months of his life before being rescued by Dale and Margaret),
Stiffles and Hari (father and daughter Maine Coons), Milk, a lilac Devon Rex who spends all summer outside and all winter hibernating
and Figo, (an affectionate Abysinnian cross).
His main interests outside the Practice are working out in the gym, theatre and music, from Johnny Dowd to Richard Wagner.
Margaret Lamont
Margaret arrived in London in 1983. She provided administrative and management support for various medium sized
companies during the 80’s and 90’s before helping Dale to set up the Practice. She manages the business side of
the Practice and deals with staffing, accounts, insurance claims, IT and supervises various aspects of clients and patient care.
Her veterinary nursing experience comes from 20 years of unpaid out-of-hours emergencies as Dale’s partner.
This is why we employ Vet24 and Elizabeth Street Emergency Clinic to provide a dedicated out of hours emergency service
so the care for your pet is the best it can be whatever time of day or night.
Margaret’s special interests are training and behaviour for both cats and dog and ensuring all our clients and their
pets have a positive reaction to their visit to the Practice.
Margaret shares the care of Betty, Zorg etc. with Dale.
Carol Horner – Receptionist
Carol began working at the Practice in August 2000 after working in the City for many years.
Her love of animals especially dogs and horses and her experience in training and behaviour has proved a valuable asset to the Practice.
Carol provides information for clients on many aspects of their pet’s requirements and care, such as diet,
grooming, accessories, toys, PETS passports, worming, flea control. She is usually the first person you speak to when you call.
Carol is interested in canine nutrition, including natural diets, dog training and behaviour and working dogs
(Search and Rescue and Disaster Dogs). Outside of the animal field she is an avid Arsenal FC supporter and enjoys walking and reading.
Carol has a twenty month old yellow Labrador Retriever, who is still a ‘work in progress’.
Marta Simoes – Veterinary Nursing Assistant
Marta began working at the Practice in February 2002 soon after arriving from Portugal with her family.
She has continued to work with us since then on a part time and full time basis while studying. She had attended
many courses on nursing care for dogs, cats and small furries. These include all aspects of veterinary nursing including behaviour and nutrition.
Marta cares for the hospitalised animals, monitoring their condition in close consultation with Dale.
She is also responsible for providing nursing support during surgical and dental procedures and radiography.
Marta has many pets including Sandy, a yellow Labrador, Sissie and Simba, her cats and Sante a collared dove
which was brought into the surgery about 8 years ago. She has also recently provided a home for Jack and Mia, two FIV positive cats.
She is interested in cinema, computer games and dance.
